Feeling really good about finishing the first week of my 15 week program. Got all the workouts in that I needed to. Not trying to kill it the first week, just get my groove going. I did miss one bike workout on my schedule due to rain, but adding up all my commute bike miles easily makes up for it.
Finished up my week with a swim on Friday for about 30 mins. I am starting to feel a lot more comfortable in the water. I am getting the feel for my hand entry and the pull and most importantly my breathing technique. I can go 3-4 strokes before a breath which is letting me use some momentum.
Saturday did a run with the group for 4.75 miles at HRZ 1-2. It was nice and cool and the run felt good.
Sunday I stayed in HRZ 1-2 for 8.4 miles. Again it was cool and foggy. The last mile I pushed the pace and jumped up to HRZ 3.
There was the "bike the drive" this morning and it was interesting to be down at the lake front path and have it be so quiet and peaceful with no cars zipping by on the road. The fog added another layer of smoothness to the morning which made for a real nice run. Got home just in time for the torrential rain to start. Looking forward to next week.

May 24th
Got all workouts in yesterday. Feeling a little wiped out today. Going to take the day off from training.
Swim felt good. Started too fast and was getting out of breath, so I slowed down a bit and concetrated on breathing every three strokes and that helped a lot. The last half of the practice I worked on getting full body roatation and that felt like it was speeding me up with no extra effort. Went easy for 25 min.
I did an easy run of 5 miles. Tried to keep my heart rate under 140bpm as a recovery run because yesterday
I did the fast intervals. Kept a fast cadence. Felt good all the way through.

Good Day
Feeling really good today. Tried to go swimming today but the pool was closed, so I did a run and bike today instead.
Did a run test to find max heart rate to fine tune my heart rate zones.
1 mile easy
30 min pushed pace. Took avg of last 20 min for threshold level.
1 mile cool down.
Bike 13 miles zone 2.

First swim
Wednesday I had a really good power and plyometric workout. I did 4 sets of pushups x10, situps x10,
then plyo jumps 10 (front then side to side). Right into 5 min rounds of kicks and boxing, then
6 power sprints with weights.
Took the day off Thursday...really sore. Full recovery.
Friday did my first swim this season. Felt really good. I was worried that I would get completely winded the first lap so I went out slow and kept slow/med tempo for about 20 min. Worked on breathing on both sides and keeping my head looking down.
Today with the running group we did some interval runs at the track. Started with 1 mile easy warmup then into 2 laps slightly pushed, 2 laps-1/2 lap 5k pace 1/2 recovery, 2 laps 1/4 sprint 1/4 easy 1/4 sprint 1/4 walk, 2 laps 1/2's, 1 mile cool down.
Felt really good. The whole group kicked but today.

Good Run
Had a really good run today. I was feeling really worn out all day. Have been recovering from a cold and my lungs haven't been 100%.
The day was chilly but sunny and I did 6 miles at a 8:30 pace. Felt Ok for the first two. Mile three was a little tough then I started cruising at 4 on. Feeling back in the game.

The Beginning
Success is the journey, and this is my journey to my first Olympic distance triathlon.
I have completed sprint distance and may running and cycling races, but being a weak swimmer I am challenging myself to complete the longer distance this year. I am signed up for the Niles, MI race on September 11th 2011. This gives me four months to get my self in race shape.
Currently I am running about 3 time a week. Normally 2 short runs around 3-5 miles with one longer run on the weekend 8-10 miles. I am also biking 6 miles round trip six days a week to work and have been doing one long ride every other week 25 miles. No swimming yet.
I just purchased a wetsuit today and am looking forward to getting in the water even though it is still really cold.
